THE CLUB PRESIDENT

Graham P. Thompson F.C.A. Esq.

The honour of being elected President of our Club is reserved for those individuals who have served it over many years. It is a 'non-executive' position insofar as although attending Committees, by tradition the President does not vote, but is entitled - and expected - to give opinions based on their experience and sense of what is right for the Club.

Graham Thompson has the unenviable task of succeeding Richard Rees as President. His predecessor served for 35 years in that position and is a hard - if not impossible act to follow.

Graham is particularly well suited to the position. He joined the Club as a schoolboy and played - usually as lock - for all the Club Teams, often as Captain. He served as Club Treasurer for many years, then as Club Chairman between 1988 and 1992. A long-standing member of the Sussex Rugby Union Committee, he acted as Treasurer, County XV Manager and latterly as Club Funding and Facilities Officer. Between 1996 and 1998 he was County President and he also serves on the Rugby Union Constituent Body Finance sub-Committee, and the Sussex Playing Fields Association.

The Club awards Vice-presidencies to those who have given special service to the Club, usually for a number of years.
