The club

Lewes 1st XV teamGreetings from the President

My thanks to your committee for electing me as Club Godfather for a third season, a role I am happy to accept.

May I wish members and visitors alike a very warm welcome to the Club. It is always a pleasure to welcome you all, particularly to the league day pre-match luncheons. These are great value and I urge everyone to join us.

I concluded my greeting last year by saying I had a feeling of well being for the season. These feelings were not unfounded, a crystal ball could not have predicted what a resounding success 09/10 would be. Across the Club every side played their part.

The first side did very well in coming 5th in a very tough league. The Women’s XV enjoyed a splendid season, a bit more support on match days would not go amiss, and who knows you might even enjoy the experience. It was a treat to see so much talent in the Mini’s, testament to the dedication of all the Dads and Mums who give so much time to the cause.

The last but greatest pat on the back goes to the Juniors, what a season, winning the U17’s cup and U18’s cup and League Final, well done guys. The future of our club is in good hands with the skill and tenacity you all demonstrated this season. Spence once more provided us with a top social mix of events and we are lucky to enjoy such fine benefactors who not only sponsor the club but are ‘happy’ to dig deep for speakers at the annual dinner, thank you.

As I go on the rounds, watching as many matches of all sections of the club as is possible, I report I am proud of the general behaviour of players and spectators associated with Lewes RFC. We are good but not without sin, let us lead by example, study the RFU little booklet setting out the 5 core values of our great game:

Team Work – Respect – Enjoyment - Discipline and Sportsmanship

David Winsor is a happy man when he hears the bar tills ringing, he manages a fine clubhouse, so come on down and make him ecstatic. I will not tempt fate this year just more of the same will do nicely.

See you in the bar.
