The club
Greetings from the President
May I wish you all members and visitors alike a very warm welcome to the club. It is a pleasure being elected for a second season as club Godfather.
Season 08/09 brought some very mixed results at senior level. After the departure of the coach we won some vital matches gaining valuable points that saw us maintain our position in the league. A big thank you to our antipodeans who gave so much to the club both on and off the pitch, a special mention to Ben Hamer who took on the role of coach and steered the ‘front side’ through a very difficult patch. The ‘A’ and ‘extra A’ XV’s enjoyed a good season playing some good rugby in true Lewes style.
A new coach Nigel Baker is in place, an ex-Lewes player who returns after a few years, welcome home, may I wish you a successful season.
The mini and junior section continue to flourish under the guidance of so many ex- players, mums and dads who give up so much of their valuable free time to ensure the youngsters are taught not only how to play and enjoy rugby but add control and discipline to their lives, which is so important on the field of play and in life.
The ladies section are a great asset playing some fine rugby during the season, the women add a dimension of fun and club spirit that is welcome in any grassroots club.
The social side goes from strength to strength with the club’s very own impresario ‘Spence’ producing a variety of events that are a delight to attend. These events generate a financial boost to the club’s coffers; please give them your support. Well done Spence.
I would like to thank Steve Rhodes who stands down as chairman after a five year stint -more than can be expected from anyone.
My last thank you is for Dave Winsor who not only took over running the club room but gave the bar a complete makeover, a splendid effort and more importantly he managed to achieve a profit. I look forward to season 09/10 with a feeling of wellbeing.
See you in the bar!
