Welcome to youth rugby at Lewes RFC

Lewes RFC run a very active Junior section incorporating Youth and Mini rugby. We have seen it grow into a vibrant and thriving community. All levels of ability are welcome and the aim is to provide players and parents with a positive experience of rugby.

Age groups

Age groups are based on a player’s age as of 1st September.

The youth section currently runs U13, U14, U15, U16 and Colts (U18) sides.

Girls and boys under the age of 12 can join the mini section. Girls over the age of 12 can not longer play alongside boys, but Lewes fully supports the South Sussex Barbarians who provide rugby for girls over 12 years.

About us

The junior section play in structured leagues organised by the Sussex RFU. Our 2008/09 season under 16 side were Sussex Champions and some of the Colts played successfully in senior sides as the season went on.

Over the years Lewes have had the pleasure of seeing young players in the various county and local college sides. Some players have made it into England Colleges, Harlequins Academy and even into the England U16, U18 and U20 teams.

Like most clubs, Lewes encounters a drop off as young players pursue further education and careers. The hope is that all players feel that their experience of Lewes Rugby Football Club as youngsters makes it their rugby “home” and they know that they would always be welcomed back be it for the occasional game

Coaching

All sides have access to plenty of RFU qualified coaches who are able to effectively deliver structured sessions and follow the RFU Continuous Performance Development pathway to ensure their coaching skills stay current.

Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults

All coaches have undergone sessions on Safegurading and Equity in Coaching and the club invests time and resources to ensure there are First Aiders and qualified referees. Find out more >>
