5-6 September match reports
8th September 2009
Lewes RFC 1st XV won their final pre-season friendly 34 - 10 at home at the Stanley Turner Ground on Saturday 5 September, against East Grinstead. Try scorers for Lewes were two of last season’s Colts team, James Halpin (2) and Tom Tudor, while Rupert Arbuthnot, Will Bell and Steve Mills bagged 1 try each. New Aussie signing, fly-half Matt Adair, from Sydney, kicked 2 conversions. According to Coach Nigel Baker the line-up for the East Grinstead match on Saturday is likely to be essentially the same team.
Lewes 2nds were also at home, beating Grinstead`s second-string side by 4 tries to 1, with Charlie Walker and Sam Hearn being among the home side`s try scorers. Other try scorers for the 2nds were Dan Cartlidge and George Page.
The 3rds played at home against a much stronger Seaford 1st XV and were not surprisingly heavily defeated in what turned out to be something of a mis-match in strength and experience.
