Under 11s on the Charge
4th December 2011
Minis - Under 11s
Lewes 20 East Grinstead 5
First match: Lewes 20 East Grinstead 5
Lewes had their first home match this season against East Grinstead and what a great game it was. The tight five dominated the scrumaging, Theo Wench, Nat Smith, Sam Chrichton, Luke Ireland and Elliot Curl had a superb match, giving the space for the backs to feed Harry Hunter who crashed over the line. The forwards started to assert their dominance using the maul to allow Sam Chrichton to slip around the side and drive over the try line.
The second half continued similar to the first with the Lewes backs, particularly Jake Hamer-Young and Thomas Rouke leading the first up tackling. The strong tackling created turnover ball for Adrigh Cole, fly-half, to pass the ball wide once more to the unstoppable Harry for him to score a powerful try in the corner. Lewes wingers Toby Wride and Laura Tucker both showed they could tackle as well as run with the ball, again creating a turnover ruck to allow Elliot ‘steam roller’ Curl to smash his way over the line. East Grinstead always coming forward and never giving in took their opportunity late into the match to show their speeding running, nipping outside the wing to score, final score Lewes 20- East Grinstead 5.
Second Match: Lewes 20 East Grinstead 15
Lewes chose to play some of their less experienced players in this match, and they did Lewes proud. Noticeable was Harry Drew for his first up tackling and storming runs, and Alex Monson with his new position as Outside Centre, again great tackling and rucking at the breakdown. Matt Hardy also gave us a demonstration on how to dig out a ball as scrum half, and Sam Boswell showed again and again why he has been chosen as ‘last man standing’ full-back. However the highlight was Freddie ’the terror’ Jackson lent to the opposition as they had lost their front row players smashing his team mates in great tackling and darting runs.
Tries were made by Harry Hunter (2), Elliot (1) and the match winner by Thomas ‘the dart’ Rouke.
