Lewes RFC Juniors Awards recognise talent and hard work
After such a successful season (or few) it was fitting that the Colts took centre stage at the Lewes RFC Juniors Awards. Coach Aidan Byrne says: “At this stage we are in the final of the U18 Sussex Cup, and still in contention for the Colts League play-off final, which is still to be determined due to the back log of fixtures.”
Captain George Dean stepped up to take the Charlie Brister Award after some dynamite performances on the field and for his very obvious commitment to the game and the team. “The Charlie Brister Award is one that I, as head coach have awarded to players for their commitment, attitude, input to the team as well as the effort on the park,” says Gareth Bowen. “This year Dean (pictured at the Rye Tournament last year) has won this award, not just for the attributes I mentioned earlier, but for his overall input to the team over the years. He started playing at Lewes in the U7s as a five and half year old, he has captained the side for many years since and his support to both team and coaches is invaluable; he challenges players, coaches and referees as well as showing a huge amount of enthusiasm towards rugby and developing the team.”
(“Charlie Brister was a lad who started playing at the club at U7s, but has since emigrated to New Zealand; he presented the award to the team on one of his Christmas visits,” explains Bowen.)
NEXT WEEK: Lewes Colts are in the final of the Sussex U18 cup against Worthing. This is also a double header as the winner is also going to be playing Brighton in the final of the U18 league. The venue is Haywards Heath 12:00 noon, your support would be much appreciated if you can make it.
