County success for our girls' rugby
25th November 2009

Seven Lewes girls make the county squad

In total, 17 girls from South Sussex Barbarians have been selected to represent their county in rugby following trials at Brighton RFC.

The 9 girls representing Sussex in the U15 squad are: Ellie Ambridge (Lewes RFC), Emily Bourne, Heather Clegg, Harriet Dunn, Faye Kirby (Lewes RFC), Martha Gosney, Abi Morgan (Lewes RFC), Verity Price (Lewes RFC) and Maia Wade-Davies (Lewes RFC)

The 8 girls representing Sussex in the U18 squad are: Ellie Bruzas, Yasmin Eager, Amy Grantham, Felicity Howes-Yarlett, Cassie Larcombe (Lewes RFC), Sereena Peppard, Megan Rees and Rachel Titheradge (Lewes RFC).

This is a major achievement because numbers of girls at the trials have increased and so has the standard of girls rugby in Sussex.

The South Sussex Barbarians is a cluster of clubs in a wide region from Lancing through Shoreham, Brighton to Lewes and Uckfield. To ensure girls get opportunities for meaningful rugby training and regular games, girls from clubs such as Lewes RFC, Shoreham RFC and Brighton RFC get together to train and play as the South Sussex Barbarians.

Pyjamas for Children in Need

All in the name of Children in Need! The girls were sponsored to wear pyjamas to training and the coaches had to dress in tutus and tiaras! Then the girls paid to throw wet sponges at them (we believe someone sneaked ice into the bucket!) The girls have raised nearly £200 for Children in Need.
