LRFC Taster Day
4th September 2009
Lewes RFC held a Taster Day to launch the new season, recruit new players and strengthen links within the club and with the local community. The Lewes Ladies had spent several months planning it and the day was extremely well-attended.
Activities included a rugby assault course, kicking and ball-handling competitions as well as junior and senior games of touch, drawing in mums and dads, coaches, players of all ages and retired players.
All sections benefited from this club event and reported new recruits as a result. The raffle and shirt auction raised over £400 of which, after costs, will be donated to PassingItOn who organise the annual 10 kilometre Heroes Run. We continue to support this great venture which uses sporting events to raise money to help rebuild lives in some of the world’s poorest areas www.passingiton.org.uk
A signed England shirt from the 1966 Football World Cup went to a brand new women’s section recruit, while American Express employees walked away with the bulk of the alcoholic prizes – because they generously purchased the largest number of tickets. Mens First XV team manager Dereck Wade got the top prize of the day: two tickets to a speed-dating event for the over-55s.
A huge thank you goes out to Chrissie Farley and members of the women’s section for coming up with the idea and making it all happen.
